So I've been thinking of teaching English in a foreign country and Mexico has recently occurred to me as a posibility. I speak a little Spanish (studied it for 3 years in college, made good grades, still can't hold a real conversation). What sorts of qualifications do schools look for in Mexico? What does it take to teach at a university?
I'm 25, I've got a Master's Degree in Linguistics (not applied linguistics, mostly phonetics and variation analysis), and the only real work experience I have is teaching English classes at community colleges. What level would that put me at in the language industry in Mexico?
PS: I used the search function but I couldn't really find good answers to these questions. |

The qualifications vary--like everything in this country!
You should go ahead and apply at universities. Especially ones that have English as a major--they will probably more interested in Linguistics rather than an MA in TESOL or Foriegn Language Teaching. How many semesters of experience do you have and was it English as a Second Language or English for Native Speakers you were teaching? |

I've only got one semester of teaching experience and it was English for native speakers. I taught a business writing class and a freshman composition class. |
