Is UNE recognized around the world?

Yes it enjoys an excellent reputation internationally. The University of New England has a long tradition of distance education, and has taught students, both Australian and International, living in countries all around the world. For this reason UNE is perhaps one of the best known Australian Universities in many corners of the globe. The University is fully accredited by the Australian Government.

The University of New England also went through the rigorous process of being assessed by the internationally recognised Distance Education Training Council and in 2004 we received their accreditation. The accreditation covered the university's course offerings as a whole, but their assessors looked at MAAL units in particular. In June 2007 UNE resigned its DETC accreditation, not because of any dissatisfaction with that scheme, but simply because UNE has more than 50% off-campus students, and we consequently fall foul of a rather arbitrary ruling by the US government - that they will not grant 'Title IV' status to such institutions. As a result of this ruling United States citizens (public servants and military personnel) are unable to receive US government support to undertake their studies with us. For this reason the University of New England reluctantly took the decision to resign our subscription. Please note that copies of our MAAL 2007-8 brochure, printed before June 2007, list DETC accreditation, but the brochure disclaimer refers readers back to this website for the most up-to-date information. I believe that in the UAE, Ministry of Higher Education accepts distance degress, which the Ministry of Education does not acknowledge them. Anyone heard differently recently?
