Here's a quick question-
Any thoughts on teaching TEFL without any TEFL experience to University-aged students and working adults?
I am a certified teacher, but only up to grade 6 (11 yrs.).
I have been offered a job teaching adults English, mostly higher-leveled learners requiring assistance with their oral fluency.
Not sure what to expect, or if it'll be over my head to teach this age group...any thoughts? Anyone teach this type of group?
BTW- I'm in Valencia, Spain
Thanks |

If you've already got teaching experience, the important thing would be to upgrade subconsciously: you're no longer teaching kids, but adults, and need to adjust for that (their expectations, learning styles and so on...). Make sure you treat and talk to them like adults ,-) ! My experience of teaching university students is that they're special too -- and "not quite" adults. You need to get on their wavelength.
It would probably be useful to you to read something like Jeremy Harmer's How to Teach English:

You might also want to ask your school if you could sit in on a few classes by their other teachers first: you'll pick up loads of little tips and get a feel for what you'll be doing.
