I've been looking at this site for a while now, and I have two questions about life in Japan( if any of these have been previously answered I apologize).
Are mountain bikes easy to come by in Japan, are they cheap and readily available, and is there a used market as well?
Secondly, do DVD's from the United States work in Japanese DVD players? |

Not sure about the DVD question but for mountain bikes .......
Yes - there are lots here (lots where I live anyway) and I think they are relatively cheap. I just bought a new one about 2 months ago and it's not super hi-tech but a 21 speed, pretty good quality Panasonic bike cost me just under 20,000 yen. I could have got a used one at a nearby used stuff shop for about 8000 yen. |

Tecnically North Amercia is DVD region 1, and Japan is part of DVD region 2. Now, since DVD regions are inherently evil, all region DVD players can be bought. Also, many personal computers with DVD capacity can be switched over from one region to another (but only a limited number of times on some models.) Some DVDs themselves are also all-region, but they tend to be pirated copies.
I have an all region DVD player. I thought of ordering something from the US, but there was a warning message stating that new US DVDs might not work even in all region players.
That's all I know for certain. Hope it helps. |

I have an LG brand multi regional DVD player and have had no problems playing DVDs from the US so far. I have also played a PAL DVD on it and it worked, but it came out in black and white. |

I thought all DVD's were the same, it is the player that is divided into regions. I brought lots of DVD's back from Canada this summer and they work fine here in Japan. |

Are you into mountain biking? What kind of riding do you want to do? Do you have a MTB now? If you do, what kind? I ride a lot here and my bikes aren't POS Panasonics (with apologies to easyABC). If you're serous about mtbiking then I can put you on the right track. |
