Hi everyone. I've been in Chile for a while now and I'm thinking of staying long term. Right now I have my visa through my school. I'd like to have a visa independant of my company eventually. I was wondering if anyone knows about how one becomes a permanent resident. Do you have to apply for a visa temporaria first? Any info would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks,
Ai |

I'm pretty sure that you do have to apply for a Visa Temporaria first....but your school can help you do this. It costs around 250.000 pesos though, just to warn you. |

I believe that in order to apply for permanent residency you need to have a visa temporaria for one year or a visa subject to contract for two. The cost of the temporary or contract visas vary depending on the nationality of the applicant -- there's a fee schedule on the Extranjeria website that you can download. Once you get to the point where you can get permanent residency, I think it's a flat fee of under 50,000 pesos. |
