Just out of curiosity, I have a B.A in English, and silly online TEFL certificate. Would I be able to find a job somewhere in the middle east, and would it pay well enough so that I could save money? |

Is BA education related?
Did your online CERT provide any practical experience? (many employers may not recognize it if it didn't)
Do you have a few years of related experience?
If no to most of these, the pickings are very small and the pay will barely cover expenses in these expensive counties.
But, you probably knew what the answer would be.

If you call watching a video of a lesson practical experience then yeah.. lol
My B.A is in English!! So not really education related, but it is in English, if that helps!
I have 3 years experience, teaching at a high school and a university in Thailand, and I can provide references.
So... ?
I guess not huh? Oh well..
I shall stay here then!! |

With a degree in English and three years teaching experience you stand a reasonable chance of being hired for something decent, though not for the very best positions. |

Do you think I should try to find something first, or just go there and find something once I'm on the ground. I guess UAE or Oman are my preferred choices, though I'm not sure yet.
My main motivation for going is the money, obviously! I don't expect one of the very best positions, all I want is something that offers free accomodation, and a chance to save some cash. In Thailand, although fun, its not really possible to save very much. |

The Middle East is not the kind of place where one just arrives and gets a job. It is not impossible, but you will likely not be provided with housing or any other benefits with local hire. In this part of the world, you need to know exactly what pay and benefits you will get before you arrive. Then check out on here if it possible to live on what they are paying... no less save anything.
Do remember that your 'fun' will probably be drastically changed in the vast majority of the Gulf.

There are a few jobs in Oman listed on tefl.com right now, and I think here too on the jobs page, that don't ask for MAs.

Yes, thanks I realise that. I certainly won't be going there to have 'fun', thats the last thing on my mind. Main reason is for money. I want to go somewhere, work my balls off, and save, save, save! Thne I can run away back to Thailand again..
I am considering other options as well, but I just was curious as to whether this is one of them or not. Thanks for your help! |

Just a reminder warning. Your online cert may not be recognized in Oman or the Emirates. Bit of a crapshoot whether it sneaks by.
