5400 dirhams/month is for the unqualified teacher at a few schools. You have many more options in terms of employment, and should be able to bring in around 10,000+ dirhams/month plus accommodation, health care, your yearly roundtrip tickets, etc. Keep your eye on the TES job site. You'll have better luck in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I'm sure you'll find work if you start looking now.

Try Al Ain English Speaking School, Emirates National School, Al Ain Americn Private School, Al Dhafra. There are others e.g Liwa, Al Sanawbar, but salaries tend to be lower there. I bet you were teaching at Choueifat before... can't say I'd recommend it to anyone with experience and qualifications.

True there are more opportunities elsewhere but Al Ain is easier to live in.

Hi Crokes

I have seen you on the much deleted TES fora - AAESS has had and continues to have its problems but is the only show in town for expats. Primary, like most schools, does have its issues but they are more to do with organisation rather than the feuds existing further up.

There is a very good core of new and used teachers there who are capable of taking that side of the school on.

I am speaking here as a parent with no other interest than that of my primary kids education. Secondary is another matter but a new head is due to be appointed for the new year. Give them ago and see what you think rather than be swayed by some of the stuff on the TES.

Good luck

hi ardiles81...thank you for taking the trouble to reply to my message.i will certainly send in my application to AAESS.it's good to hear the view point of a parent also.hope all is well in al ain.does aaess recruit teachers trained in ireland.i know that a few years ago they were reluctant to do so as we have trained under a different system.i know that irish schools have no problem accepting teachers trained in the uk, so maybe it has changed everywhere.will let you know how i get on...thanking you again...crokeo.
