Do the conversation schools (such as Ecc, Berlitz, etc) make it a requirement for teachers to teach children? |

Hello,
These schools have a policy of having their teachers teach whomever comes through the schools doors. There is no specific clause stating that a teachers HAS to teach children. The clause just states that you will teach whatever clientele they have. It could be a child, a teenager, or an 80 year old.
If you do not want to teach children, then its recommeded that you have this stated specifically in any contract that you sign. But please note, that contracts in Thailand are not binding as they are in other countries.
It is very rare if a person is exempted from teaching children, as they make up a greater portion of their customers. And, if you wont teach children - they will find someone that does.
On a side note: some of the schools have specific teaching positions - business English, hotel management English - it is doubtful you will find a 5 year old in one of these classes. So, try to angle for them if the school provides them.
Hope this helps. |
