I have not seen much from threads about CfBT in Brunei. Is that because no-one really uses this cafe from there or that there is little to say about the place. Have got a large family and have recently qualified with a PGCE as well as Delta and bags of teaching (EFL/EAP) experience. Could anyone help with any advice (prefer positive rather than just a general excuse to moan or whinge. I need constructive advice concerning making enough to live and give the kids a good education at the same time.

Thanks

There's worse places in the world than Brunei. Money is not so good, having not gone up for quite some time. But the job is hardly onerous so you get plenty of time to spend with your family if that's what you want. PM me if you want to know more details

Hi

I have only just read your post from several months back and, in fact, have the other day posted the thread'Thumbs Up For CfBT.' Check it out - it is very positve! if you want details, send me a message. Hope you are still considering Brunei. Especially with a family, it is a great place to be1

Brunei CfBT teachers have got a pay rise starting this January. The increase is around 25%. It was long overdue and should make Brunei more attractive to potential recruits.

I've been here a few years and we have two kids in school. It has been a struggle as we are still paying a mortgage back home. The teaching is pretty relaxed, if you get a nice school. Life here is fairly easy going once you adjust to the Islamic culture. This doesn't bother us too much. We are not big drinkers so the occasional trip over the border to get a few bottles of wine or beer is not a problem.

If you have more than two school aged kids, remember that CfBt will only cover school fees for two children.

I realize there is another active thread for 'Thumbs up for Brunei!,' and I don't really want to split/have 2 active threads about the same topic.

But can you tell us a little more about your town, teaching situation, etc. - here, in the Thumbs Up thread, or by PM, NETteacher???

Although we have no kids, and no mortgage 'back home' - as we are not sure where we want to be semi-permanently based out of - the teaching opportunity/savings possibilities for a double-teaching, no income couple looks quite good so far, based upon what others have told us, here and in other boards/forums.

Regards,

Glen

(ps - she has been teaching children for her first 3 years here, and Uni the last 3; in 10 years, I've had kids, adults, business classes, Ministry of Education jobs, academic editing, etc. So additional insights about particulars that you have experienced there, as a couple/family, would be fantastic).
