Anyone know the process of getting an absentee ballot for the upcoming November election?

During the 2004 elections, both the GOP and the Dems campaigned in Mexico, to the million or so Americans that reside here. Both parties will advertise in the News and other media to get your vote.

I suggest checking with the American Embassy.

I think you have to register at the Embassy and that they will issue you with the appropriate absentee ballot.

Unless things have changed since 2004, or they are different in Mexico than in Europe.

I wonder if you can register with the Embassy while you're still on a tourist visa...

Search online. The rules vary from state to state. I just requested my absentee ballot and I did this before for the governor elections while I was in Chiapas. I just had to print out a form and mail it to my office, they sent me the form and I voted. It's easy. Don't go to the embassy; all info should be on internet. Just make sure to vote for Barack.

hilary scares the beejesus out of me...actually, all of them do to one extent or another, but obama seems the lesser of the evils to me.
he gets my vote.

If you check here https://www.overseasvotefoundation.org/overseas/home.htm for your individual state info, you should be good. I downloaded the Illinois info and managed to send in my registration in time to vote in the primaries. I got a email from an actual person with the downloadable ballot attached and everything. Go democracy! (Also go Obama!)

Interesting to note the votes seem to be going according to type now. I was reading yesterday, that Obamas' votes are coming from the young ('cos he's young), blacks ('cos he's half-black) and men ('cos he's not a woman). And Hillary's come from older people (she's 60) and women ('cos she's a woman!)

I despair of this kind of voting pattern, which takes the attitude, "What can she/he do for me?", rather than "What can she/he do for the country, and therefore eventually for me".

Let's keep in mind that this is the first time in US history that there are serious candidates for president who are not white men. That could partially account for some (not all) women favoring Hillary and some (probably most) African-Americans favoring Obama because you feel that they'll bring a different set of priorities to the table, which could benefit not only their group but also the country as a whole. By the way, I am an older (62) white Jewish woman who is wavering between voting for Hillary or Obama. Hmm, what will I do if Bloomberg (who has done a great job as mayor of New York City) decides to run as an Independent?

Very true, MO39. I find this election much more interesting than usual. At this stage, it would be a brave person that bet any money on who will be the next president!

I think it was about 83% in Saturday's primary!

I'm not surprised by this figure. The more disenfranchised you feel you are within your society, the more you're apt to think that someone who at least looks like may give you a fairer shake than you've enjoyed so far.

Thanks for this info, sarliz. I just registered with this easy-to-use site and am waiting for my ballot to arrive via e-mail so I can download it and vote! And my thanks to the Pew Charitable Trusts for partially funding the whole thing.
