I was just curious what the minimum requirements were to teach in China. I have 2 years teaching experience in Korea. As well a TEFL certificate and 2 college diplomas (not degrees). Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Very Happy

Well looks like you're sorted!!

You will easily get a job teaching in China. Post your ad on the "Post Your Resume" link and you will receive many replies.

The minimum qualification is that you can speak English - preferably a native English speaker.

- Alive

- Obviously foreign looking

- Willingness to go to China.

I had a friend who came to teach in Guangdong shortly after she finished high school, at age 18.

Some places might ask for a degree. Some might do so and look the other way if you don't have one. I've seen jobs that ask for PhDs on the job site here. I know of places/people that will hire absolutely anyone.

Absolutely everything will vary upon:

- Where you want to go (China is a bit on the vast side)

- Where you want to teach (uni? middle school? language mill? )

- ability to sell yourself, luck, and negotiation skills

- who you know

With your experience and certs, you should be able to land a decent enough job, I'd wager. But it's not up to me in the least. And it might be easier if you narrowed down where/who you want to teach.

So far so true, but there are variations!
Some schools absolutely insist you have a recommendation, in my school they demanded to see two!
And, job stability and job security are not great here! Expect to be shunted around, cheated, lied to, misled, made promises...

Just noticed your name: if you are Asian-looking, you are bound to run into the reverse side of affirmative action for the benefit of waiguoren!
