I have been teaching ESL in Korea for 4 years now and it is time for a change.
Vietnam sounds the most attractive.
I don't know anything about Vietnam!
I saw a posting here that said "just work on a 6 month tourist visa" but when I did visa research, it said I only get one months entry.
Is that correct?
Would I have to keep leaving and coming back?
Which is the biggest city with the most energy, action, nightlife, job possibilities?
Where can I live cheaply? (hotels, apartments...and how do I find them)
...and importantly, there were many posting saying " no hiring from overseas..just go knocking on doors, resume in hand"
My resume is impressive enough to get me working, but WHERE ARE THE DOORS?
Where are the language schools?
How do I find them?
I don't want to be sitting on my butt as I am a bit of a workaholic.
I want to be working right away!
I hope I can get lots of imput from people!
Thanks in advance! |

I'm not quoting scripture, but do you have a TESL or CELTA? In Vietnam, the designation is rather useful in finding the good jobs--not so in Korea.
As for finding your way around, best to just throw yourself into the fray and see what happens. |

If you haven't done so already, you might want to check the Vietnam Forum and the Job Information Journal? Some of your questions are addressed.
Good luck. |

Yes. I do have a TEFL certificate, but not CELTA.
I am just a little nervous about finding out WHERE to live, and HOW to FIND the schools.
It is so easy in Korea!
Plus we have things like pusanweb.com , where we find work, friends, romance easily.
Coming to Vietnam is going to be like being a child all over again.
It's all ok!
I will check out all your suggestions.
If anyone knows a web site for expats in Vietnam, or places where we can hook up, please let me know.
Feel free to email me.

I am currently living and working at a School in China but I have contacts for 3 schools in Ho Chi Minh City if you would like them. I was there for 2 months in July and August this year.
