I've got a direct hire married status contract with the national oil company. My salary, bonuses, travel for me and family, furniture allowance and health benefits and school fees assistance work out to that kind of figure over the contract length. Some people even make more by doing privates or working on radio,tv etc in their free time.Qatar is safe,as are the Emirates and Oman.Perhaps I should have clarified my original post.My wife and son are both here...this is my third year in country. The ME is especially safe for children although I must confess,in the ME(and everywhere else of course), ,I'm sure glad I'm a man.

Dear itslaredoors,
Thanks for the info. I was thinking $70/80 thousand, straight salary. But that clarifies matters. Come to think on it, I suppose if I added in all the extras - housing, medical, plane tickets, etc. - I'd be making that, too. Not to mention the BIG benefits: No taxes, no bills. I imagine it's probably quite different where you are, but in Saudi Arabia, I wouldn't want to be a single father with a small child. The hassles would never end.
Regards,
John
