Hey all,

I'm new around here. I have decided that I want to teach English in Chile! I'm really excited about this - I was on the fence for a while. Anyways, I want to go toward the end of July to try and get hired on for the second semester in August, and possibly the first semester after that.

How often do school's hire on for the second semester?

Thanks Very Happy

Language institutes don't have a second semester. But you should still be able to find a job then.

There's some work available, but you end up largely with the dregs. It's hard to get a full schedule and it's hard to be selective because there's not a lot out there. Either plan on not working full-time or be prepared to run yourself ragged as you try to fulfill everyone's needs except, perhaps, your own. Most schools prefer to hire for the full year, beginning in March/April. But holes will occur, and you may be able to fill in a couple of those.

Thank you both for giving me some advice. Please accept my apologies for the rude delay in thanking you. I have been going through a lot of changes - geographically and emotionally - that have kept me quite busy. I'm sure your replies have helped me, as well as many other TEFL seekers. Smile
