visiting a small indigenous village in Mexico?
The background of this post is really long, so I'm excluding it here, but let me know if you need/want more information.
But I'm at the very begining of a project for cultural/ecotourism in the village my mother-in-law is from, and we are trying to gage interest.
Here are the questions
Would you be interested in visiting a small village in Oaxaca?
How many hours would you be willing to travel to make such a visit?
Which of these activities would you be interested in participating in/learning about?
Traditional medicinal steam baths (Temascal--in this village it is not a spiritual practice, but a health one).
The local Language (Mixteco).
Traditional farming methods.
Traditional crafts (palm weaving).
Nature hikes.
--Rock climbing.
--Horse back riding.
--Collecting medicinal plants.
--unexcavated archealogical sites.
--Caving (the cave would be at the end of a rather long hike or horseback ride).
Traditional cooking classes.
ETA:
Thanks Chola for the PM, I realized then I could add moutain biking and repelling to the list of outdoor activities that this town could offer. There is a cliff that would be great for repelling. |

The distance is a major factor in deciding on the feasiblity of ecotourism in this village. That's why I want to know how far people would be willing to travel before saying how far it is.
You can see some photos on my flickr gallery

| This sounds great! Let me know if you get it going. After I get my first teaching job I will be working toward my BA in Natural Health and this would be right up my ally.Everything sounds interesting to me. |

| Another name for those flowers in your pictures is " Jalapa". But they may have several names depending on location. |
