I'm heading out to China (HK) in just over two weeks and have had some offers from EF. I was happy to go with this until i found this message board. I've got BA + TEFL but no experience unfortunately. Is it a better idea to go without securing a job and just have a scout around (my visa is only 30 days though). I completely new to ESL, so really need some words of wisdom from the more experienced guys and girls out there. I'm thinking at this point a school with a good DoS is priority. And although being out there and in it for the teaching, I don't want to be worked to the bone.

Anyone know anything about Dalian? and are there any good places to work up there?! If anyone has some good contacts, i'd really appreciate some pointers!

Thanks for your time! Smile

Not every branch of EF is bad to work for and seeing that you want more or less someone to hand you lesson material then you will find that you will have to work for an English institute that employees a set course for their teachers to teach from. Oh, and get a job and visa before you come!

Have a look at some English course books at a Foreign Language bookshop while in your home country to get some idea of what you could be expected to teach.

Look on the internet.
