| How long does it take to transfer an L Visa to a Z Visa? The school would be handling the process i believe. I ask as my L visa is on 30 days. Thanks |

What province are you in?
Because, technically, it is not possible to convert or transfer a visitor L visa into any other visa. The rule actually requires you leave China to obtain your new Z visa. Not that it always works that way. |

Please review numerous other posts on this subject
If the school can really do it, a week
If not, you're screwed. schools actually do lie about this stuff (see other posts currently on the subject) |

| actually what you want is for them to get you a residence permit and a foreign experts certificate. With proper paperwork and guanxi it should take 2 weeks or less. If someone at the psb hates them never. so realisticly somewhere between 1 week and the time that hell freezes over. if you haven't got it after about 2-3 weeks i would very concerned about their ability to get your proper papers. |

| Here in Shenzhen it's a little more than two weeks. Takes about 5 days to get medical results back, a couple days for FEC, and then 5 days for the visa. |

Oh, there is no such thing as an actual transfer. Legally it can't be done. I know of it being once almost. The FAO screwed up, so he had to wine and dine the Foreign Expert Bureau person to get an invitation letter made. By law, this letter can not be give to someone in country. So fibbing on this part. They got the letter and the FEC, Some guanxi spent.
But then the next hurdle. The PSB The PSB must stamp your passport as you having left the country, then have it stamped again as you having reentered the country.
Think many wnat to risk their jobs, or at least a good reaming, to do all of this? Which is why the Hong Kong service makes a lot of money from laowais always having to go to Hong Kong to do this.
Please let us know how it plays out, so we can tell other s |

I took a poll of many of the fts where i currently work.
ALL except me came on touist visas from their home country and had them turned into Z / RPs by the school. A few came from other places inside China and had Z / RPs from their last school.
I had an F visa and got a Z /RP.
The school did it about 3 weeks after we got here and no one had any problems with this process.

I'm curious what your passport looks like. How where your L/F visas cancelled?
Does it say you city or a border city |

If they don't or can't convert your L visa to a Z visa in Shenzhen I think it would be pretty easy to just hop across the border to HK and get your Z visa there. |

| So for those who have to change an L-visa to whatever by going to Hong Kong, how long will that take? |
