Hi there,

I was wondering whether anyone had any experience training with TEFL International in Kolkata, or teaching in India at all. TEFL Int. claims that there are ample teaching opportunities in India, but I haven't been able to find much info on such possibilities, so I'm wondering whether that assessment is to be trusted... Thanks for your input!

My friend and fellow Engilsh teacher here in Korea got her TEFL there last year and she thought is was a good program. As far as finding work through TEFL International, she said they had lots of offers but she needed more money then you could expect from teaching in India. However, I have corresponded with 2 of her classmates from that course and they both found jobs in India through TEFL International that they are happy with. They are both at private language schools that pay pretty well for Indian standards. I asked if foriegn English teachers were really much desired considering the amount of English-speaking Indians and they said yes, definitely but the schools are for the most part small and you won't see positions advertised much.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I was wondering, too, about the demand for teachers since so many people speak English there. Thanks for the input.
