Hi,

I haven't worked in Germany for about 5 years but am planning on returning. While looking for something longer term, I'm checking out possibilities of work in language schools. There are one or two international chain schools in the town where I'm applying and I've been asked for an interview. Having worked at branches of this school in the past, I know that they are open to negotiation on the hourly rate that they pay. At one branch of an international language school I was getting about 15 euros an hour, but that was not over good and, as I said before, about 5 years ago.

Considering that chain school frequently get newly qualified teachers and pay less, and I have 8 years of experience I don't want to sell myself short (or work more hours than I need to!!! Laughing ) so I was wondering if anyone who is working in a similar position can give me a rough idea of what I should aim to ask for per teaching hour.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I've only ever worked in Germany and never for a chain school (I haven't heard many good things about them). They may be good to start with to get your foot in the door, but I personally work for individual schools... They also tend to pay better. I earn between 33-45Euro per 90 minute lesson and between 30-50cents per KM. Take a look in the gelbeseiten and maybe look for a Volkshochschule in your area Smile Hope that helps!

I work freelance for private schools, teaching mostly in-company...and not for any chain schools. I'm a newbie and I make 40 Euro per 90 minutes. Some companies pay travel, some don't.
