I am trying to decide whether or not to get the paper work ready in order to get a work visa, just in case a school requires it.
It's kind of a tedious process that will cost around 65 bucks all together (maybe more I'm not entirely sure if I've got all the steps down). What do you guys think? Is it necessary? |

John Hall and others talked about this once and they made it sound like it was a real ordeal and that for most teachers it wasn't necessary. Getting the FBI record thing also looked like it took a while to get a response. I did read a post that reminded me to make a few photocopies of my passport. If you loose your PP, having a photocopy can apparently can come in really handy. I also emailed my bank to get a letter stating I have an account with them so I can show that to a local CR bank when opening account. Just something to think about. I swear I feel like I'm pushing daisies at this job... Anyone have a fast-forward button that can make a month or so zip by? Preferably one where I can still get paid in the interim? |

I bet that will work fine. Someone in one of these forums mentioned having to have an official FBI record, so I ended up saving this in my notes:
An FBI Identification Record, often referred to as a Criminal History Record or Rap Sheet, is a listing of certain information taken from fingerprint submissions retained by the FBI in connection with arrests and, in some instances, federal employment, naturalization, or military service. If the fingerprints are related to an arrest, the Identification Record includes name of the agency that submitted the fingerprints to the FBI, the date of arrest, the arrest charge, and the disposition of the arrest, if known to the FBI. All arrest data included in an Identification Record is obtained from fingerprint submissions, disposition reports and other reports submitted by agencies having criminal justice responsibilities.
The United States Department of Justice Order 556-73 establishes rules and regulations for the subject of an FBI Identification Record to obtain a copy of his or her own Record for review. The FBIs Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division processes these requests.
1. Print and fill out this cover letter:

2. Print this finger print card and call/bring it to your local police department to get prints:
http://www.fbi.gov/filelink.html?file=/hq/cjisd/pdf/fpcardb.pdf
3. Include $ 18 - U.S. dollars in the form of a money order, certified check
Or pay by credit card:

4. Mail the items #1, #2, #3 (listed above) to the following address:

When I went to the Costa Rica Embassy website I could not access or download any forms or applications to apply for the work visa. I spoke with the CR consulate in Chicago and she said this is how you got the forms, etc... Was I the only person that couldn't access them? I must go to the doctor after 6 months of being in CR for a checkup. Won't I need a work visa in order to do that? (because of the national healthcare system)
I hope the visa doesn't take that long to acquire.
