What are people in Taiwan's opinions of tattoos? I've read that some places connect them with organized crime. I've got one on my leg. Would that make it unacceptable to wear shorts for class(if shorts are worn to class, anyway)? Would people on the street think I'm in organized crime? |

Tattoos are not really a big deal here. Even local good girls get them from time to time. I think employers might balk at a whole sleeve job, but one or two won't even rate. |

Unless you look like you're Taiwanese then you wont have a problem with people thinking you're a Taiwanese gangster. |

Times change. way back sporting any type of tattoo here instantly made you yakuzza, triad or a bad person. Foreigners were viewed with suspicion showing tattoes, but were asked to cover them up. These days fake tattoes are all the rage. Some are having original work done, but when you go swimming or sauna places, those guys with the waistcoat style full tattoes, THEY are gansters. Met enough 4 season gang and bamboo union thugs to last me a lifetime. |
