There were those Master Teacher thingies they gave to people who paid for them at TESOL Arabia - do they count? |

Robaco degrees, for those who don't know how to use MS Word!
I once got an application from RB's ex-boss, who also shared a house with him for three months. He claimed he had gained a Robaco cert whilst studying in England during that time. The only thing he forgot was that I was living next door to them both in Saudi at the time. |

I mujst be getting confused. RB was selling Robaco certificates at TESOL Arabia in Dubai women's college in 2002. There was such a stink over it that I thought the organizers had decided to stop anything similar ever happening again; I evidently underestimated their love of lucre. |

The TESOL Arabia Master Teacher Certificate is being judged a bit harshly IMHO. While not perfect it is a good idea: have a range of presentations on relevant topics selected by knowledgeable persons |
Well, I would have thought that anyone worthy of being called a Master Teacher ought to be knowledgeable enough to select their own presentations. Besides, although attending a conference is stimulating in terms of professional development, I'm not sure that sitting in 8 sessions can genuinely improve your teaching skills (which is what the term Master Teacher implies).

most institutions give some kind of recognition to their best teachers, so this is probably what having: many teaching awards refers to. |
UAEU just started giving 5, 10 and 15 year long service certificates a year or so ago. In fact it says 'award' on them. But given that all you have to do to get one is not get around to moving on.... |

Now I'm really excited - sounds like a computer game with all those levels. Why don't they put it on-line like that World of Warcraft thing and call it World of Teachcraft? Then we could have WOT certificates. |

|
|
This post is in response to the thread about TESOL Arabia '"selling" ELT certificates/awards. Please note that the Master Teacher Certificate was one of our many Development Courses. These courses are designed to be more focused on certain aspects of the profession. The MTC was a series of presentations offered by invited speakers and locally-based presenters which focused on the latest developments in the skill areas. From a total of 14 sessions, attendees were asked to attend 8 (of their choice) to earn the participation certificate. For those of you who are interested in these Development Courses, we are offering four this year. Pre Conference Development Courses are on ESP, Conference/Event Planning and Research. The Development Course that is to be offered during the conference is entitled "The Three R's: Reigniting, Retooling and Retiring in TESOL". All profit from the conference and Development Courses goes directly back into the organization and helps us offer a year's worth of free PD activities for members. |
