| Gee, they've already honored you by telling you the date? We get Jan. 25th-ish off to Feb. 20th-ish off. We'll know "for sure" on Jan. 24th-ish. |

hmmm i always manage long holidays. this one will be shorter than last year (8 weeks last year since i did my own exam scheduling). this year the school has set a date for the exam, so next week have two days of class, then off till 11 jan when i will spend three days marking exams and handing in grades, then off till feb 25th. well looks like another 8 weeks for me with 5 days of work between now and the second term. still not bad. 7 weeks + |

Well at my low paying uni I get a measly two months or so. of course I could have finished my classes last week if I had really wanted.
Actually three weeks is better in some ways, you may travel less, so you can spend more money on your travel
But then it means that you are really only free during the peak travel times, unless you are smarter then me and go to another country
Don't know anyone with less then three weeks. Though once I worked at a language mill that had grand plans of me working during the vacation. Seems the parents had little interest though. Classes of 6 or so students |

I'm at EF. I negotiated a special contract so I could have the normal 7-9 week vacation, but most of the other teachers are doing the 'intensive' for the whole break which means six days on and one day off as opposed to the regula 5 day work week and they get paid the exact same salary during this period. At the end of this 'intensive', they get one week off and then back to the normal 5 day a week grind.
Honestly, eight weeks off is a lot of time, so I will probably travel three weeks, do nothing for one or two weeks, and then go to work designing the curriculum for a high school we 'team-teach'. I will only put in about 5-10 hours a week though (it IS vacation for chrissakes). |

This year the uni where I work has scheduled an unexpectedly long Spring Festival break for the FT's -- from about December 20 until February 25th.
There is a caveat, however, if you will, and that is that the Golden Week Holiday in May, 2008 has been reduced from seven consecutive days to the calendar day of May 1st only.
Both are paid as a matter of course. |

BAD: I get 10 days off (maybe can squeeze a couple more).
SO-SO: I have most of the next week off. May have to go back for some recording for 2 - 3 hours for 2 - 3 days though.
GOOD: Still get paid my full salary. Enough time to squeeze a holiday to Oz.
I can't complain. I have a lot of perks in my well paid job. Plenty of travel, heaps of great dinners and lots of gifts. Great students they are, too. |

| Would be more "in context" if people would comment on what sort of work environment they are in - private language mill, public school, university, etc. |
