Sorry, but my feeling is that the US has its budgetary priorities stupendously wrong - it can spend billions to prosecute a war on very iffy grounds, while schoolteachers have to request donations via internet just to carry out educational projects??!!

My contribtution towards tissue paper or other supplies, while it might make one classroom's new year a bit brighter, also would contribute to vastly skewed values...

I personally prefer to contribute to causes where alternative funding is not so readily available.

My point is that the US has the funds to support their own schools (lavishly) if they choose to do so.

Speaking as a teacher who worked in an inner-city (poor) school in the South of the US for two years.


There are more worthy charities out there.

This thread reminds me of that bumper sticker:

It will be a great day when schools get all the money that they need from the government and the army has to hold a bake sale to buy bombs.
