Anyone taken the ESOL subject area exam? I am going to take it on 1/12 and so far I haven't had much luck finding study material. I saw one blog where someone said there was lots of academic jargon, another where they said the FTCE ESOL exam was basically about classrooom management.
Also, are those mo-media or the flashcards.com sites useful? Every search I've done, those those sites pop up, but I don't want to shell out $40 for something that may be useless. |

I'd also like some info on this.
Are you doing an alternative certification program for the state of Florida? |

No, I am not doing alternative cert, I intend to get provisionally certified by passing the ESOL subject area exam. Of course after that I will take the required courses to go the "career-change" certification route. I recently left California, where I was about to embark on their cert. path, and I find that Florida's is a bit more of a headache.
I'm in Florida now, preparing. There is a Cliff Notes book in the library that is aimed at test takers, but similar books contain wildy different content. In addition, I bought (from the FDOE website) a downloadable PDF that lists topics covered, and it gets really in-depth; all this leaves me kinda nervous with the test approaching.
I haven't been able to find any other websites with useful info and I didn't buy the Morrison flash cards, I am not sure how useful they would be. |

Maybe I should PM instead.
JG, you made a move to Florida?
How is it comparison to Los Angeles? What region of Florida did you choose?
That's another region of the US I'm interested in, well, basically anywhere that has a warm climate. |

Interesting.
I also taught in California... San Diego to be exact. It was a private IEP school for adults.
My academic advisor there for the grad program in education suggested I make the move to Florida. She said they are granting emergency teaching certification to M.A. TESOL holders who can teach ESL in the public school system.
I have my M.A. in TESOL and I'm seriously thinking of going that route. Just not sure I want to do it in Florida though... |

There's a huge demand for ESL teachers in Miami and there aren't enough teachers! |
