I've lived in a few places in China and think Suzhou is the best so far, even better than Xiamen, and I liked living there a lot.
Suzhou really has the proverbial mix of old and new China together with a lot of western food outlets/restaurants/bars etc and it also has a vibrant expat scene, if that interests you. You can check out: www.suzhouexpats.org/ and www.whatsoninsuzhou.com.cn
Taking the D-train you are in Shanghai in about 35 minutes (RMB22 or first class RMB31).
Weather wise it's crap at the moment (cold and rainy) but warms up nicely from March to June the gets hot in summer, and the good weather lasts until October.
I'd recommend Suzhou to anyone but like anywhere in China it also depends a lot on your job, or whatever you do, whether you enjoy the experience of a particular city or not. Where's the job offer from? |
