This has irked me for some time now...This teflonline.com outfit always has a prominent advert on daveseslcafe advertising an "internationally recognised" online teaching cert. Now, the idea that this piece of paper is "internationally recognised" is at best totally misleading, and at worst an outright lie. No reputable school would ever accept this certificate, as it involves no teaching practice whatsoever. The CELTA is internationally recognised, this thing is not.
Furthermore, this company offers guaranteed job placement. How can a recruiting agency, having never met a candidate, be sure that he or she will be suitable for employment? The very notion of giving someone a guaranteed job is absurd.
I would like to see the working conditions of the jobs which they place people in...let's just talk salary first. They say that in Poland, the average salary begins at $500/month, which is about 1200 PLN/month. This is only one-third of what any normal job pays in Poland. Their website also claims that in Poland, their online cert is sufficient. I really would hate to see the places that these poor souls end up in.
I hereby challenge this organisation to name one respectable school in Poland which accepts their worthless piece of paper.
The real shame is that a certain number of optimistic, well-intentioned young people are mislead to believe that this hoopla is what TEFL really is, when in fact, with a CELTA and a bit of research, it would be so much more for them. |

tMost places do say that you're lucky to make 500 USD a month. Sometimes it is more than the local salaries, but you're not going to be living like a local. |

Shh, for God's sake, don't bash the advertisers. You'll be airbrushed out of history so quickly it'd put Uncle Joe to shame. |
