hey guys,

I know this seems similar to a topic posted earlier, but I was wondering if I could get some info on how well macs from the us are compatible in Europe. I'm thinking, if I'm only going to be in Spain for 6 months, it might be better to get a mac in the US and thus, not have it be configured to the spanish system. But my dad suggests waiting until I get there to see what the "system" is like and get one there (which I fear will be more expensive).
Also, does anyone know what the used computer market is like in Spain (and specifically Madrid)?
I'm sure I'm revealing my ignorance on this, but any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Emma

The conventional wisdom is that computers are MUCH less expensive in the States or Canada than in Europe.

I travel with my laptop all over the place - you just need an electrical converter. You can easily install Spanish along with English, if you wish, in your word programs.

i got my Mac from the online spanish Apple store. you won't find them cheaper elsewhere in Spain, so you can make the appropriate price comparisons by visiting their site. Apple Macintosh are very much a specialist company in Spain, so the second hand market is small.

i got an educational discount, and you're able to have your Mac loaded with the English language operating system. Apple support in Spain is good too. i suspect, though, that you'll be much better off purchasing one in the US which should be perfectly OK to use in Spain with the correct power adapter.
