Dear Marm,
I know that ILA offers summer school positions starting in June (I think) that last for like 3 months. I'm sure that some of the other big schools, like RMIT, offer summer school contracts as well. I had a friend that did a summer school contract with ILA last year and all the benefits, such as the contract completion bonus, were still offered but at a pro-rata rate. They asked him to stay on after his contract was finished too, but he needed to go back to Taiwan.
Hope that helps,
P.G. |

If you get a short term contract at ILA for the summer, you will be teaching in their kiddy program for nearly all of those hours no doubt. They have a lot of full time teachers already "riding the pine" so to speak to get their shot at the older kids classes. Something to think about unless you are a kiddy teacher.
Just come over and look around a bit. There are nearly 300+ places to pick up work and summer time puts you in the drivers seat with schools around here. You will find higher wages elsewhere if you just walk into a school and negotiate and might find some classes that fit the type of classes that you would want to teach. Not all jobs here are at the language mills such as the previously recommended. |
