Well it's been ages since i last actually posted here...not being an English teacher anymore being the main reason..! But, hey, i hope everyone had a great New Year...how did you all celebrate where you're living in South America??

Here in Valparaiso, Chile the firework display is probably one of the best in the world and something that almost every Chilean feels they have to experience once in their lives...the city fills up with around a million visitors and there's one helluva party!

Here's a link to my blog and some videos i took from our terrace http://corrugatedcity.blogspot.com/search/label/New%20Year

What's New Year like in Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru etc???

It's probably a smart thing to do, as far as TEFLIng in LA. I'm still making the same amount I was five years ago, depsite an MA, publications, presentations at national conventions, etc.

I'm sure you're making much more than the average teacher in LA.

In my part of Mexico (it's a big and varied country), New Year's is very important. My husband's extended family is all together, this year even the members living in Mexico City came, only one cousin in the US was missing. For Christmas, each family unit spends that at their own local church, New Year's is all together. The last days of December envolve a steam bath so that everyone is completly clean to recieve the new year. New Year's Eve envolves dinner--usually a cook out on an open fire--drinking, singing and dancing, fireworks--just the noisy kind, and toast and a hug to each family member just after the fireworks are launched at midnight. Luckily this year it was warm, the cold front hit us around mid-day the first.

Happy New Year to all.
