I am doing some research into unique problems that young learners face in each of the following countries:
China
Thailand
Vietnam
Bulgaria
S Korea
Kuwait
I have done a little research but if anyone has other ideas that would be fab. To date I have
China:
Thailand: too much fun??
Vietnam: passive
Bulgaria: talking when the teacher does
S Korea: fear of mistakes

China: Lots of stress on kids as young as two.
Korea: public schools, big classes, less control. |

Vietnam: The focus on money, money, money means big classes, which means less attention to individual students. (this is for private language schools.)
There are huge boy-girl germs problems, especially in teen classes. You walk into a teen class and the boys and girls are clustered together at opposite sides of the room, with as many empty desks as possible between them.
Sentence stress - they'll ask a question like "Have. you. got. a. cat.?" Pronouncing the "j" or "dg" sound, ie in "budget." And the "i" in "hit." I'm sure there are others. |
