Just thought I would spread some love around, haha.
When I came back from Vietnam a few months ago intending to work in SF for a few months and then go to another country, I never thought I would apply to ESL jobs. I have a few years experience teaching overseas, but the pay in SF is,um, the same as the places in Asia and we all know the cost of living in SF is high. Yup. But this time it was a slow roll getting my normal office jobs going, so I applied for a few subbing positions.
And thats when I started teaching (sub) for Brandon College on Kearny Street. They are SO fantastic! If they were in any country that I even remotely wanted to live in,I would sign a long term contract in a heartbeat.
Why?
They are small enough that you really get to know the students, its multi-lingual classes (guess thats a given for this location), the staff and management is very supportive and flexible, as is the content of the lessons. They use Azar, which I can say a few not so great words about, but you dont HAVE to use it as a primary text, which is nice. Mon-Thur are morning grammar classes (2 hours), conversation classes (2 hours), more conv. classes (varying times) and private classes (again, varying).
The pay is average for ESL in SF, and admittedly hard to live off of unless your rent is super cheap and/or you have other work or private students or work tons of hours.
But the atmosphere is relaxed, energetic and lively. I cant say enough good stuff about them. Due the school is small and it seems they have a core staff and some back ups in place (very proud to be on this list), not sure how often they hire. But if you are looking for work in this city, give them a try.
Feel free to drop me specific questions about this school or SF if ya want.
