For people thinking of coming to work in China I recommend that you consider the recruiter OWDC (One world Development Consultancy) as a starting point, web site www.owdc.org The company is a NZ husband (Chris) and wife (Su) team, working in Hubei Province, who have been working in China for about 5 years. I got the information from the ESL Caf Job Information Journal last year OWDC: A Dolphin in a Sea of Sharks, June 2003. I wanted to work in China, I have a degree, CELTA and some teaching experience, however I was not willing to come without knowing I definitely had a job. I contacted Chris and he arranged everything for me bearing in mind my preference for a university rather than high school and a city rather than a country town. The International Office at the university is efficient and helpful and I will sign for a second year as I am very happy with the posting. I am extremely pleased with the OWDC general support, orientation week, teaching weekends and the telephone lifeline that is available when you fear that you have just done/said something stupid. The instant network of over 20 contacts, gained at the orientation week, was invaluable for my continued sanity. |
