I'll be teaching in Weihai next school year - 2008 - 2009 - and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about the city. I've googled it and read what's on the internet, but any first hand knowledge out there? Any info welcome.

Well, that website is in Chinese, so I'm afraid it's not too helpful. Anybody else? I've been to Shandong before, taught in a summer session at ZaoZhuang, but never been anyfurther east there than Qufu.
Thanks. |

Giving this is bump because I'm looking at a job in Weihai. It hasKoreans, it is clean.
But does it have movie theaters, malls and Chinese language schools? A good foreigner bar and a friendly expat community pop over 20?
Thank you for the info.

My wife worked their when she was young in a factory (run by Koreans) and she said it was nice (the place, not the job!) but she does not recall ever seeing any foreigners except for Koreans. I suspect the place is not what you are looking for man. |

Don't know about the city. From the sparse Wikipedia offering, the climate looks pretty good, though cold in winter (but not Dongbei cold.) Here's the Wikitravel entry: http://wikitravel.org/en/Weihai . And here's the entry for Travelblog, which often has a lot of good information for local places in China: http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/China/Shandong/Weihai/ . Good luck. I'm guessing from the above it's not Shanghai, but depending on the foreign crowd, there may be some nice diversions. |
