| if you become a teacher at a chinese university, are you allowed to make use of the sports facilities and/or join the university sports clubs?? |

My Shanghai uni had an excellent gym and weights room FTs were welcome to use. There were also teacher teams in student basketball and soccer competitions, though most teachers lived off campus.
There is no general rule. Ask where you are applying. |

That varies from school to school. While eslstudies' previous allowed FT's to use the gym and weights, my previous school did not allow anyone other than PE majors to use the track, tennis court or the soccer field. Students and teachers had to pay a membership fee at a little gym that is also on campus to workout. |

Too bad for you, at my U, I only had to show my Teacher card.
For the swimming pool, I was required to show a certificate of health, the Dean was furious and when hard on those little stupidly racists administrative workers...
I had a super Dean! |

| At my previous university the school allowed the foreign teachers to use the gym. The staff and teachers were happy for the foreign teachers to use the gym. However there was this one teacher who did not want laowai in the gym when he was there, so we weren't allowed to use the gym while that one particular teacher was conducting classes. However if there were Chinese students using the gym while he was conducting classes he was not bothered. |

| Varies very much depending on the school and on the FAO office. Many times the FAO office doesn't tell you what is available because they don't care, or just don't know |

| Sometimes they just don't tell the truth about what sports facilities are available, it's always good to check things out yourself. Last year, they assured me there was a "large sports field with a running track" and a modern gymnasium used for "olympic type competitions". It turned out to be a small dirt track that no one used except to walk across to get to the cafeteria and a small gym with two ping pong tables. |

One school told me before coming that they had an indoor swimming pool. I had put on some wait in mthe summer, back in the states. So one of the first things I asked... where was the swimming pool. After beating around the bush, I was finally told there was a swimming pool, but thee hasn't been water in it for many years now  |

Why would anyone travel across the globe to a job that they haven't verified something so simple?
