Has anyone else heard of automatic dismissals or contracts not being renewed when a non-Japanese English instructor turns 63 at a national university? In some countries the automatic age of retirement at universities is 65, ready or not. Is the magic number in Japan 63? |

I haven't heard this. I know that the national law is up to age 70. Individual universities, both private and public, can set limits below that for both part-timers and full timers. Some universities 'force' full timers to retire ealier and take part-time work until reaching 70. Two universities that I work for do this, but since I'm part-time, I guess I'm forced to keep working as long as they still want me (unless my wife picks a winning lottery ticket ). |
