Is anyone currently working here? The board has been quite quiet on this one for a while. Just looking for some current information. |

Hi Mishmumkin,
I spent most of Thursday visiting ATI and in Abu Dhabi visiting friends and PI came up in conversation with several people. I'll dig further but I heard they were asking for Ph.ds to teach English.

Me!
But not in Foundation, so don't know the whole story. Some people are on downers here, but for me personally it's pretty good. What do you want to know exactly? |

What is happening in the Foundation department? There was some talk here awhile back about not having any students... so they weren't hiring, and were in fact cutting teachers. Has that all settled down? About how many EFL teachers do they have these days?
They were just interviewing at TESOL in NYC and I haven't heard anything about requiring PhD's... just the usual MA + some related experience. It sounded like they still have a very good pay package and benefits. Do they still provide a flat + furniture allowance?
I believe that they have a level above Foundations to teach writing. Could that be where they are asking for PhD's?

Veralynn, Could you put rumours to rest and ask your people is they are hiring or pass on phone number and I'll call them. Thanks.

Hi, I'm not in Foundation so I don't know the nitty-gritty, but to the best of my knowledge they are not hiring English lecturers at the moment. If you want to check out the website it's www.pi.ac.ae
Student numbers aren't what they want them to be, but I don't think anyone's actually been fired because of this.
I doubt they're asking for PhDs.
Lecturers are all waiting for a pay-rise but I still believe this place to be one of the best paid in the region, though some disputed this on a different thread. Housing allowance for English lecturers is now Dhs150k which isn't bad, plus furniture allowance.
Hope that helps! |

Can you find a decent place for 150K these days? |

If you are single, for sure. If you have 5 kids it might be a bit more difficult. But honestly, it ain't bad as housing allowances go. |
