The documents I will take with me into Mexico, apart from the obvious passport, will be my transcripts from University of Manioba, undergraduate degree, University of Winnipeg, Certification in Communications with an emphasis on Public Relations, letters of recommendation, a certificate of completion of the Manitoba employment and immigration volunteer program, and my Universtiy of Manitoba CTESL certification.
Since Canada doesn't apostiles, I'm not concerned about what I do instead, thanks to Dave's Cafe and the helpful people at the Mexican Consulate. But I'm wonder if any of you know the acronym CTESL?
This is a certification from the self-regulating Canadian association of teachers of a second language.
There are only some post secondary schools who are able to grant certification because their programs need to be up to the standards of the national body.
An undergraduate degree is mandatory. And 140 hours of class time - including a practicum consisting of 10 hours observation and 10 hours teaching. My transcript will indicate 40 hours of class time in each of the following courses: Principles and Procedures of Second language teaching, Teaching ESL Grammar, Teaching ESL Vocabulary and pronunciation, Assessment, and the practicum, which includes 10 hours of observation and 10 hours of teaching.
Are grades important, or even considered? Right now I've got a 4.0 average.
Allthough the courses are geared to teaching adults in Canada some of my lesson plans were designed for teaching business English in Mexico.
Should I bring a lesson plan along that was marked by an instructor? |
