Hi all,

I am an American teacher considering a jump to Vietnam, either in the ESL scene or in the international school scene. I've lived in S. Korea for a year teaching ESL and I've lived in Taiwan (on and off) for 3 years teaching ESL and at an international school. My question, as a somewhat experienced teacher is this...................How is the lifestyle in Vietnam? Let me give you an example, in Taiwan, it's very relaxed in the small towns, nice groups of foreigners, backpackers, and great night spots to just hang out or to go crazy if you'd like. There was also a nice mix of urban and countryside and great hiking, beaches, etc........Although, I know some who would beg to differ. How is the social life in Vietnam? I'm really outgoing, love to stay busy and take my work seriously. Do most foreigners drive scooters or motorbikes as they do in Taiwan? I found this also very fun and made Taiwan a very accessible place. Any feedback would really be appreciated and thanks in advance!!! I'm hoping to come to Vietnam within the next few months!

Cheers!

Vietnam is a place where you can choose what kind of lifestyle you want to live. There are people who come to party on De Tham all the time and then people living quiet lives in smaller places. If you live in Saigon there are a whole group of people that live in Distict 1 and have apartments near De Tham and there is another group out in 'the Ghetto' which is off of Le Tan Ton, but Anh Phu, Go Vap and other districts have plenty of work and good deals on housing that are attractive to people living the quiet life.

There are lots of opportunities to socialize. www.saigonh3.com is a good place to get some outdoors time and meet people.
