reading these posts, i see that many of you have been there for years. what's the law on maximum allowable stay in china teaching english.
must you exit the country sometimes? if so, for how long.

I do remember reading on these forums, someone said you have to leave the country once every 5 years. The time you actually leave for can be less than a day though. I am not sure if this was factual or someone just pulled it out of their behind. I for one have never heard anything like this.

I am unaware of any "law" restricting the amount of time that a foreign teacher can work in China.

I have been working in China for nearly seven years now - in five different universities and in four different cities and provinces. There has never been a problem renewing either the 'Z' Visa, or the Foreign Experts Certificate, or the Residence Permit with each 'one-year' Contract.

However, that said, my circumstances may be different because I have not been "continuously" in China for those 7 years. I usually go home to Australia at the end of each semester, for about 5 weeks, to visit family and friends.

From another thread a while back. There is no such law. However the Education Bureau has a "regulation" that states a foreigner should not stay more then five consecutive years, based on the theory your english will become worse. I have only heard of this being applied once to deny the teacher the right to stay at their college.
