Hi everyone,
Firstly, thankyou Dave for allowing me to be part of this forum, I hope to contribute over time and make some good friends.
Background info:
Australian, almost 30, and finishing my B.A this year, and have about 500 hours English teaching experience to Korean kids. (don't have TEFL/TESOL though)
Newbie questions:
My friend and I have our one way tickets to Japan booked for right after semester 2 of Uni finishes this year, so we'll be flying without our B.A though by the time we fly we'll have completed enough credit points.
Here's my questions:
1) One way ticket to Japan, ok? (we got one ways because we want to do a year in Japan then fly to Taiwan after that)
2) Provided we pass our final subjects this year, is it ok to leave the day after our final semester finishes?
Any advice relating to visas or anything else would be sincerely appreciated, this is a big step for us.
Cheers,
Ichiban |

Welcome to the boards.
Check with the embassy to see if you need roundtrip tickets.
YOu'll probably want to have your degree in hand before you arrive, makes proving that you have a degree a lot easier.
I also recommend posting on the Japan forum, they could probably help you out there as well. |

Talk to the registrar at your university about getting a transcript or some sort of letter saying that you've finished your degree. It can take a while to get the actual piece of paper, which you'll need for most jobs.

Japan is a mess at the moment for work in ESL so I wouldn't be going there without a signed contract in hand.
A return ticket is the best medical insurance you can get being an Australian.
If you need to save then Korea is good. If you are okay for money and don't need to save then try China.
Both Korea and Taiwan could get dangerous later this year however with the way things are going.
Japan takes you about a year to get on your feet before you can save; the good times have long gone. |
