Hi everyone!
Does anyone know what sort of rep the American School of Pachuca has?
Thanks |

I know this is from a few years ago, but I haven't seen much information on this school and as I just sent in my application for a job there, I'd like to find out whatever I can. So anyone have any information? Or even just information on the city? All I can find about living in Pachuca is that it's a middle class city... but is there anything social going on there? Is it easy to get to beaches or Mexico City?
Also, as this is my first time posting on the Mexico forum, I'm wondering what people with experience in Mexico think my chances are in getting a decent job there (one where I can save at least a little money). I've taught for about a year and a half total so far, six months in the States with adults and a year in Korea with kids. I also just finished a CELTA, and have a BA. Thanks for any advice. |

One of my former co-workers spent a year at that school. He seemed to think the school itself was okay, but didn't particularly like Pachuca, calling it boring and "hum-drum".
I've never been there, so I can only offer his opinion. |

There are quite a few comments (mixed) about them on TEFLwatch.org
But unfortunately TEFLwatch has recently become harder to use. But it should come up in a google search of the school's name. |

Thanks Melee and ls650 for the responses. I did look at the posts about it on Teflwatch, and they seemed to be overall more positive than negative, so I'm hopeful.
The humdrum description does kind of worry me... I was stuck in a very humdrum small city in Korea for a year and don't want to repeat the experience. I'm just hoping that the fact that I have much more Spanish (though still definitely a beginner) than I did Korean and will be able to entice a lot more people to come to visit me in Mexico from the US will make almost anywhere there not too bad for 9 months. I'm not a big partier; my idea of a good place to live is somewhere where it's not too hard to meet people and that has some low-key activities available. |

Yeah, I'm afraid that's the impression I got of Pachuca too! There a couple of nice places near, El Chico and Real de Monte, but after the first 10 times these would get boring too. Check out the pasties though - not as good as the original Cornish Pasties, but still delicious. |
