I have been talking to a school called Assumption College located in the town of Sriracha, Thailand. Does anyone have anything to say about this organization??
What about the town, has anyone lived in Sriracha/Si Racha? I know its located close to Chon Buri and Pattaya, but any more useful information would really help. Thanks! |

About the town.
Sri Richa has a Central department store and a cinema but not much else. A Central is like a Shinsaegae or major department store. There is a large port there and it is quite industrial near the water. It is about a half hour bus ride to Pattaya, where there is much more to do like watersports and playing around. There is also shopping galore in Pattaya. For the expat, Sri Richa is like living in a small town rural setting with some busy roads passing thru the east side of town that lead elsewhere. The weather could be very agreeable for much of the year Oct-Feb...and many partly sunny but hot days for the rest of the year.
Could be nice to live there. |

Sri Racha is quite a nice seaside town between Pattaya and Bangkok. As stated, it has a mall or two, but there is not a whole lot to do there. If you want 'action' you need to go to Pattaya (or, of course, BKK, which is one of the world's great cities).
The stretch of coast from Bangkok down thru SR, past Pattaya and beyond is called the Eastern Seaboard. Some of the towns are quite industrial. Although there exist some beaches, and one or two offshore islands (koh Samet, further down the coast, is known for its beauty) this seaboard is NOT like what you see in the movies. Southern Thailand has that stuff..tropical lagoons and white beaches blah blah.
Assumption College SR is one of a group of colleges/high schools run (overseen) by catholic friars. The kids may not be catholics (most people here are Buddhist) but Assumption is a fee-paying set-up. The kids will be middle or upper-middle class, and some will be spoilt rich kids. In many fee-paying schools here, the emphasis is on pleasing the rich parents rather than rigid standards--although some schools are worse then others.
In many schools and colleges here, the administration is less than perfect. Thai management often guarantees that there will be screw-ups with all sorts of things. Those of us who live here and know the system tend to shrug, and half expect it.
I once went to the Assumption SR campus. The campus is large and well-kept with good sports facilities. Salaries in these places tend to be higher than gvment schools, but you need to check the other benefits AND make sure that your salary is 'real'.
I knew somebody who worked there, and he became fed up after a year or two. Personally, I would not work there, although I am not a high-school teacher. You probably need to visit and get more info.

Sri Racha is also close to a small island called Ko Si Chang. Aside from a few tourist attractions, and a few small beaches, there isn't much there and few tourist ever go -- which may be good for just that reason. |
