I know there have been lots of threads on the Uni of Nizwa but I haven't read much about the pay and living conditions. Can anyone provide info?

And also, what is the work environment like/number of hours a week/etc, etc.

I think you're looking at salaries between 700-900 OMR. Accommodation is provided. Work conditions are average, it seems. The workload is not particularly heavy. I think teachers work in "shifts" since there really isnt' room to house everyone. Hence, no 8-5 on campus stuff that you might have w/ other unis. I don't think this is a bad option for those w/o a MA TESOL.

Well, according to my friend whose been there for a few years, theyr'e quite sweet, but no different than most Omani students. Having taught mixed Arab nationalities in the UAE, she finds the OManis lovely, for hte most part. Motivated? Eh...not too much.

If you are applying for a job with U Nizwa, why not ask them the questions, or ask to be put in touch with a faculty member who can answer them?

Ooooo, me! me!

I know stuff.

The shifts are called A and B.
A shift works 8 to 1 on Sat and Sun, 8 to 10 on Weds and 1 to 5 on Mon and Tues.
B shift works from 1 to 5 on Sat and Sun, 10 to 1 on Weds and 8 to 1 on Mon and Tues.
On top of contact time in the class room, we do 6 hours of "office hours" when we can meet with students.

The students vary a wee bit, from completely unsuited to academia and or lazy to extremely serious, motivated and ambitious. I find them fascinating, at times exhausting, extremely sweet (except when they aren't) and I am pleased to contribute what I can to their education, given the imposed limits of the program.

The dress code is nice clothes. No jeans or tennis shoes. No shorts. No dishdashas. A few men were ties. Ladies cover shoulders, legs and cleavage appropriately.

Salary is about 950, accommodation provided as stated earlier.

I like it there.
