Hi everyone,
Firstly, thankyou Dave for allowing me to be part of this forum, I hope to contribute over time and make some good friends.
Background info:
Australian, almost 30, and finishing my B.A this year, and have about 500 hours English teaching experience to Korean kids. (don't have TEFL/TESOL though)
Newbie questions:
My friend and I have our one way tickets to Japan booked for right after semester 2 of Uni finishes this year, so we'll be flying without our B.A though by the time we fly we'll have completed enough credit points.
Here's my questions:
1) One way ticket to Japan, ok? (we got one ways because we want to do a year in Japan then fly to Taiwan after that)
2) Provided we pass our final subjects this year, is it ok to leave the day after our final semester finishes?
Any advice relating to visas or anything else would be sincerely appreciated, this is a big step for us to do a bit of travel before returning to Australia in a few years.
Cheers,
Ichiban |

You need to provide a bit more information. First, what kind of visa are you planning on getting? Are you coming on a working holiday or do you want to work on a full working visa? This will have a big influence on the answers to both of your questions. |

Hi Apsara,
I was thinking a WHV might be easier to get given the fact that when we fly we will have finished our units at University but our recent work won't be marked yet so graduation (ie-getting the degree on paper) will be a few months away.
Although, I do like the security a pre-arranged contract provides coupled with the fact that it seems the employer procures the visa for you, we're open to both options and I need any and all advice I can get - all this prep work has really got me down.
Cheers,

One-way overseas may not be permitted by the airline or by immigration. Tourists (which you are if you don't have a work visa) don't come one-way, so it will raise a red flag.
If you want to come before you get a diploma yet still qualify for work visas, get your university to provide transcripts and a letter of certification. |
