Hey Chiang Mai-ers:

What would you list as the Top 5 places to eat and drink in your fair town? And why?

Thanks. You help appreciated.

Cheers,
Bob

Its been a couple of years since I lived in CM but since you haven't had any replies I'll give it a go.

The Irish Pub - spent a great deal of my salary there on food and booze. They used to have trivia night and open mike nights during the week. It was run by an Australian when I was there - Sandy - great bloke. I wonder if he's still there.

Jerusalem Falafel - run by an Israeli woman who I think we called 'mama'. Great food.

Mad Dog bar - used to go there after work for a few beers with my British co-workers. Good food and great breakfasts.

Rasta bar - nice outdoors atmosphere. Plus there are heaps of bars in that soi, so you can bar hop.

For Thai food - a place we called 'Blue Tent ' because it used to be covered by a blue tarpaulin. I have no idea if thats its real name. Its in a soi around the corner from AUA. Cheap beer and excellent Thai food cooked by its very lovely Thai owner.

But really there are so many places, most of which I didn't know the name of, I just knew how to get there. Like the excellent and very cheap Italian restaurant, with food cooked by an Italian-trained Thai. It was in a soi somewhere up near the university (CMU).
