I worked for Shane in Taiwan 3 years ago. Mixed experience in terms of good and bad - but i won't work for Shane again.

My question is this can anyone tell me of any schools that don't expect teachers to dress like Mormons. I am not a scruffy or untidy dresser but would prefer not to wear business attire when teaching in a sub tropical climate particulary with challenging children.

Also worked in China and Thailand where i was free to dress as i pleased. smart casual, clean and tidy, yes i bow to these rules but not shirt and tie if i can help it.

There are two schools that I know of that allow sandals and shorts ( as long as you keep it clean ) and are pretty nice places to work. One is called "Ivy League" and it is in Yilan. The other is called "Powerful" and is in Tainan. Both have super nice owners who will gives enough teaching hours and always treat you fairly.

Of course there are a lot of others that have relaxed dress codes also.

Principals Schools (at least our branch) in Taipei County let you wear pretty much whatever you want. The contract says something about...haircuts, shaving, and no sandals. But, it's crap. My boyfriend's hair is much longer than most Taiwanese men and we both wear jeans, t-shirts, and flipflops to school every day. There are even some Chinese Teachers who wear sweatpants (granted, they're the cutesy Taiwanese version with glitter and sequins, but still sweatpants).
