| I'm shocked and really surprised you didn't get the 70%. What were the directors talking about in their recent meetings? I thought the meetings were just to rubber stamp the decision made from above. |

The other thread re: this topic was locked. Let us all move on - to somewhere where you WANT to be during the break...
Enough of this childish banter about pay increases. This banter is really kid stuff. Lets face it: the future will be revealed to us all - not when we want it, but when the HCT system wants to..
Supposition is useless - as is speculation regarding what folks do at their meetings 
Enjoy the break. Forget about HCT - it, and your work will be waiting for you when you return. |

Not surprising...thank god I don't work there. Longton seemed to be the only poster to have been seriously entertaining the idea of a 70% increase. 25% sounds okay, and no doubt those disappointed by this decision will be soon heading for the door, as you suggest. |

How many of them will head for the door? Reality is that they probably can't do much better moneywise elsewhere... and it costs money to change jobs/countries.
Many will complain (all?), but most can't afford to leave either.

All??? I won't. besides, I left a terrible taxing { } situation. I will stay until they "boot me out". I am not gloating, for I can leave if I wish. But..... Why bother - cold North American winters (like -30F) and that "s" word - "snow". Snow was good when I was less than 40, but now???
Besides..... Have you been watchin' the desert turn green after the rains??
The younger ones can leave too - if they can fly away for a holiday during the break - they CAN afford to fly out and leave too. For Good!!
It is just (for the young ones) facing and dealing with LESS money elsewhere... |

That sounds like those apologists for staying in Saudi for decades.."Oh, life is so horrible in the real world...we have to pay TAXES, boo hoo...and it's so COLD....boo hoo... and the trees and grass are so green in the spring, summer and fall and things are so luxurious that I don't even know I'm alive anymore because life is too pleasant and convenient but I still have to pay TAXES...boo hoo...
It's not cold on the US Gulf Coast or Florida or southern California...not even so much along the Northwest coast. In fact it's pretty nice. And even some ESL people live well here if they manage to find decent college jobs. |

Hey, I stayed in Saudi for almost 2 decades (19 years, though not continuous; it was from 1980 to 2003, with some breaks in between) and I'm not "apologizing" for anything.
I had a job there that was highly satisfying, great colleagues, an administration that left the teachers alone to do their jobs, a chance to save money and a lot of opportunity for travel.
Now I'm back in the "real world", and I like it here, too. It's not so much where you are that matters, it's who you are.
So what's with that "those apologists" remark, anyway?

I've always wondered why it is that those that disliked the Gulf and left seem to have trouble accepting that many of us liked it. But, wherever I am is home, and I know how to enjoy living most anywhere... from the chaos of Cairo to the quiet of Oman to the deserts or prairies of America.

I'm in the Pacific Northwest. It's as cold as a witch's...little finger this week-in fact most people from the region say the summers are wonderful, but the rest of the year is pretty dismal. And decent jobs to support oneself in cities like Portland and Seattle? Nah...few and far between and hard to live on. |

Well, let's see, just for starters: Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammed. Three major world religions issued from the Middle East.
Some might consider the gentlemen listed above as having had "great minds." But then, I suppose it's a matter of opinion.
And when I have a free day or two, I'll compile a much longer list.
