For the purposes of obtaining a work permit in those countries where a degree is required, is it in any way important at which university one's BA was obtained or which subject was studied?
Thanks.
Mike. |

I don't think it makes too much difference.I graduated from a small university in Canada that I am sure the immigration authorities never heard of before.
I think having a valid degree from any university or college is all that matters. |

"in those countries where a degree is required"
Maybe it varies from country to country. Mongolia might be different from Chad. Are you asking about China ? Turkey ? Korea ? I have a seankey feeling that they different rules. That just proves you can never trust a foreigner.
In my experience no one is vey interested in where you studied or even what you studied. Having said that, there are some fussy employers who will insist that you have a degre in English. Exactly how the academic study of Jane Austen is related to teaching English Conversation eludes me but we live in a strange universe where not everything is open to rational explanation.
That is my grouse for the day. Thank God It's Wednesday, which is the end of the working week in Saudi Arabia ! |

"In those countries where a degree is required" can even get complicated. In Mexico, for example, it depends on which immigration office you go to for your work visa. Some ask for proof of a degree while others don't. For those immigration officials who require a degree, I've never heard of anyone being turned down because of the name of the university on the degree or what the degree was in. |

Dear scot47,
Sorry, you're going to have to type more loudly - I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
Lord, it's tough being a geezer.
