I wanted to clarify the situation at ECAE. Three instructors have resigned. None were "let go." I am one of the instructors who resigned.
When I resigned I encounted problems from the head of foundations. However, because none of us had contracts there was nothing she could do to stop me from resigning. I even got an assurance from the Vice Chancellor that my resignation would be effective on the last day of the Fall Semester 2007. My going to the V.C. angered the head of foundations.
We had an argument and I told her what I thought of her.
What the head of foundations did was have me removed from the classroom. I was paid for the rest of the semester even though I was asked not to come to campus.
Because of the decency of both the Vice Chancellor and the head of HR, I was also paid for the days of leave I had earned and given money for an economy air ticket home.
As in every place I've ever worked, if you can be part of the inner circle you'll be fine.
What got me in trouble was expressing my ideas about education and English language teaching at meetings and in our shared office.
I'm glad to be out of there. |

Thanks alot for that information. They are currently advertising for English teachers and I have sent in an application. It concerns me that you say you never got a contract. Is that still the case ? Glad to hear you were supported by the VC and Head of HR , though I heard he has recently resigned . Secondly are all the English jobs just in Foundations or are there opportunities to work outside that program.
Other than the office politics how did you find the students and can you tell us what material was being used.
Much appreciated and best of luck with your future endeavors.

Thanks a million for your clarification as many qualified teachers need badly your information. You worked there and you know better than those who sit on a chair all day long, read posts and attack posters .
Oh OK, I got your point. The problem relies on the Head of Foundation and his/her incompetent management practice
Thanks again. |

You've been warned about the managers. Then, if you are in the region, why don't you go there and get more information before those managers will ruin your career.
Just my thoughts and I hope this helps. |

updates:
From an official source, the Head of HR & A well known Professor just resigned and left recently. Apparently, this professor was the Dean of Education at another university in the UAE.
Let you know more soon. |

This is rather disingenuous, since you yourself worked there, and were indeed 'let go'. Those working in any given EFL environment will have different perspectives concerning the value of the institute's educational management. Just be aware that the opinions of two ex-employees are not uninversally shared. At this point, your best strategy may be to move on with your life- and, if you wish, to do some self-reflection regarding your behaviour in your previous workplace. |
